Touro College of Dental Medicine receives NY state approval — 7 things to know

Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College in Valhalla is slated to open this fall, according to White Plans Patch.

Here are seven things to know:

1. The dental school is New York's first new dental school in almost 50 years. Since 1968, the population of New York has increased by 4.5 million people.

2. The school aims to enhance oral healthcare delivery in the sate.

3. Touro College of Dental Medicine will include a four-year pre-doctoral program for students and a continuing education program for practicing dentists.

4. The school will also have a 132-chair community dental clinic to serve the underserved populations.

5. In the school's first academic year, it plans to enroll 110 students. The school will include nearly 440 students when at full capacity.

6. Jay P. Goldsmith, DMD, will serve as the founding dean of the dental school, and Edward F. Farkas, DDS, will be the school's senior associate dean for clinical affairs and chairman of dentistry.

7. The school named Ronnie Myers, DDS, senior associate dean for academic and administrative affairs.
