Empire State Dental PAC campaign donations reach $4M: 4 takeaways

Since 2010, the New York State Dental Association, Empire State Dental PAC, has contributed $4 million in donations to state candidates' campaigns, the New York Post reports.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Donations include $822,000 to the state Senate Republican Campaign Committee, $753,000 to the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee and $150,000 to Governor Andrew Cuomo's campaign.

2. The dental association has worked to block bills allowing hygienists and dentruologists to see patients without supervision or a referral from a dentist.

3. The Empire State Dental PAC was listed as the ninth largest giver to state legislative campaigns and political parties in 2014. In 2015, it was the seventh largest giver and in 2016 it was the 26th largest.

4. The New York State Dental Association consists of 13,000 members.
