BIOLASE reports 9% decline in revenue: 5 highlights

In its second quarter results, BIOLASE reported $12.6 million in revenues, a 9 percent decline.

Here are five highlights:

1. Net revenue for the first half of 2017 was $23.5 million, a decrease of 5 percent from the $24.8 million in 2016.

2. Gross profit as a percentage of a revenue for the second quarter was 37 percent, as compared to 41 percent in the second quarter of 2016.

3. BIOLASE reported $9.2 million in total operating expenses. In the second quarter of 2016, the company reported $9 million.

4. Net loss for the second quarter was $4.3 million, or a $0.06 loss per share, compared to a net loss of $3.5 million during the second quarter of 2016.

5. In order to turn a profit, BIOLASE is looking to streamline operations, reduce payroll and consulting expenses and reduce planned discretionary spending for the remainder of 2017 and 2018.
