A study by Delta Dental Plans Association, found the tooth fairy was frugal in 2017, cashing out an average of $4.13 per tooth.

1. In 2016, the tooth fairy dished out an all-time high payout of around $4.50. The survey found the tooth fairy visited 84 percent of households with children.
2. The drop in 2017, represents an 11 percent cash payout decrease. Additionally, 55 percent of parents reported the tooth fairy may have missed a visit at some point during the year.
3. While the price of teeth dropped, there was a $271 million payout for lost teeth across the nation.
4. For children losing their first tooth, the average payout dropped slightly from $5.72 in 2016 to $5.70 in 2017.
5. The tooth fairy pays out the most in the West, averaging $4.85 per tooth. The Northeast follows with $4.35, and the Midwest dishes out the least with an average of $3.44.
