Average 1st year of dental school costs $50K+ & 5 more stats

Currently, there are 66 accredited dental schools in the U.S., according to the American Dental Association.

The most recent school to receive accreditation was A.T. Still University-Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Kirksville.

Here are five other statistics:

1. In the 2017-2018 academic year, there were 25,010 students enrolled in predoctoral dental education programs. This is up from 24,677 the year prior.

2. Of the 2017-2018 students, 49.6 percent were female. The class of 2017 was 48.5 percent female.

3. For 2017-2018 students, the average first year cost of dental school reached $50,770 for state residents and $68,403 for non-residents.

4. The cost of public dental school sits at $37,877 on average while students attending private school average $67,087 for their first year.

5. After graduation in 2017, 89.9 percent of graduates went on to occupy dental-related activity, which includes pursuing additional dental education or participating in dental-related occupation for which graduates were trained.
