The outlook for dental hygienist salaries rose between 2010 and 2019, according to U.S. News & World Report. In 2019, the median salary was $76,220.

The field is growing, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting 6 percent employment growth between 2019 and 2029. An estimated 13,300 jobs are expected to open up.

1. Santa Maria, Calif.: $140,150
2. San Jose, Calif.: $120,420
3. San Francisco: $113,940
4. Santa Rosa, Calif.: $113,390
5. Vallejo, Calif.: $112,700

Here are the best paying states for dental hygienists:

1. Alaska: $114,790
2. California: $106,240
3. District of Columbia: $102,380
4. Washington: $93,200
5. Oregon: $87,270
