ADA releases COVID-19 hazard assessment guide

The ADA provided a hazard assessment guide and checklist for the safe reopening of dental practices as a part of the organization's continued efforts to ease confusion and anxiety among dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resource, released May 26 by the ADA Advisory Task Force on Dental Practice Recovery, allows dentists to receive reliable information and consider several actionable steps. It gives dental staff guidance on how to collect credible information on COVID-19 hazards, conduct safety inspections, identify infection hazards and perform incident investigations

The guide and checklist also encourages dentists to consistently repeat the assessment so they can track data trends during the volatile period of pandemic recovery.

"We have been using this tool in my office to help my team recognize situations that would put them at increased risk of exposure and find ways to mitigate those risks," Sarah Poteet, DDS, told ADA News.

Dentists can access the hazard assessment guide and checklist here.
