'Oral health is essential for good overall health': Nevada Dental Association encourages patients to return

Mark Funke, DDS, president of the Nevada Dental Association, is assuring Nevadans it is safe to visit the dentist during the pandemic, according to an opinion column he wrote for the Reno Gazette Journal.

As Nevada dental offices reopen for routine and nonemergency procedures, Dr. Funke is encouraging patients to maintain their oral health, which he wrote is "essential for good overall health."

Nevada dental employees are practicing CDC-recommended safety measures, such as wearing sufficient personal protective equipment, social distancing, and sanitizing their surroundings and equipment. They have also stopped using ultrasonic instruments when cleaning teeth to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

The Nevada Dental Association is also calling for a revision to the Nevada administrative code so that dentists can administer COVID-19 antibody testing to better gage metrics and slow the spread of the disease.
