Dentists are warning TikTok users about another do-it-yourself trend, this time saying they should avoid affixing vampire fangs to their teeth with super glue, Insider reported.
In the spirit of Halloween, TikTok users have recently been posting videos of themselves struggling to remove vampire fangs after gluing them to their teeth using the adhesive found in the box of fake nails they used as fangs. Nail adhesive, which is made of the same ingredients as super glue, is poisonous and won't come off, according to Dearborn, Mich.-based Zainab Mackie, DDS.
"If you're using acrylic nails as your fangs use a denture glue," Dr. Mackie said in a TikTok video of her own. "It's going to be safe and easy to take off. You can also use ortho wax. This is not going to stay on the whole time but it's safe and good for pictures."
Julie Davis, DDS, a dentist in Park Ridge, Ill., also made a TikTok post addressing the dangers of the trend, telling users that yanking on the fangs could damage their enamel, fracture their tooth or end up extracting a tooth completely. In her video, she told users to call a dentist for safe removal and urged them to be careful until the fangs fall off or a dentist removes them.
