Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has approved legislation making dental care more affordable and accessible, reports CBS affiliate WIFR.
Under the bill, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation can give out-of-state dentists temporary professional license permits so they can continue to practice in Illinois under certain measures.
Permits must be used within six months of obtaining the permit. Users cannot give conscious or deep sedation or anesthesia, and patients must sign a form acknowledging that they are receiving care from a dentist with one of the permits.
"Every Illinois resident should have access to affordable dental care, regardless of their income or community they call home," said Mr. Pritzker, according to WIFR. "This legislation will help make that care a reality by allowing out-of-state dental professionals to temporarily practice in Illinois, furthering my administration's efforts to expand healthcare to all of our communities."
