Pennsylvania dentist charged with $1.5M in Medicaid fraud: 5 things to know

Ilya Babiner, DDS, of General Dentistry Number One in Feasterville, Pa., is charged with Medicaid fraud, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

Here are five things to know:

1. Investigators allege Dr. Babiner submitted $1.5 million worth of false Medicaid claims between 2014 and 2016 for work he didn't perform. He has been changed with 55 third-degree felony counts.

2. Investigators became aware of the suspicious behavior after noticing a pattern in Dr. Babiner's billing. The dentist allegedly would file claims for only patients with the same letter last name during certain weeks.

3. The alphabetical billings went on for two years until the Dr. Babiner's records were subpoenaed.

4. Dr. Babiner's office waived preliminary arraignments and hearings. He is set for a formal arrangement in April.

5. Dr. Babiner's charges include Medicaid fraud, tampering with public records, theft by deception and criminal use of a communication facility.
