West Hartford, Conn., former dentist Peter Delaney pled guilty to three counts of illegally prescribing oxycodone, according to the Hartford Courant.

1. Mr. Delany will be sentenced to four to 15 years in prison, which will be suspended after serving six years. He will be under probation for five years after his release and is not permitted to practice during this time.
2. The former dentist was first charged with 45 counts of illegally prescribing opioids. Along with his sentence, Mr. Delany agreed to pay a $50,000 fine.
3. Authorities discovered Mr. Delany was illegally prescribing painkillers after one of his patients was arrested for bank robbery. His former patients said he was robbing the bank to get money to purchase opioids from Mr. Delaney.
4. While Mr. Delany was addicted to opioids at the time of his arrest, he is now sober. He told the court he was guilty of writing prescriptions not medically necessary.
5. Mr. Delaney practiced at his private practice West Hartford Center Dentist. The practice is permanently closed.
