Madison-based More Smiles Wisconsin is fighting to manage and treat the 90,000-plus people eligible for care at the nonprofit clinic, according to WKOW.
While people continue to come through its doors, More Smiles is also fighting low reimbursement rates. Many of the patients eligible to receive care are on Medicaid.
The Wisconsin Dental Association found reimbursement rates for adult dental care in the state are the fifth lowest in the U.S., WKOW reports. However, the dental office continues to see as many patients as it can afford, as many of the patients they see have never received dental care.
With clinics in Madison and Fitchburg Wis., More Smiles estimates it needs roughly $100,000 a year to stay afloat. Last year between the two practice, More Smiles treated more than 1,700 patients.
