Springfield, Ill.-based dentist G. Mark Gekas, DDS, had his license suspension temporary lifted by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, according to The State Journal-Register.

1. Illinois officials suspended Dr. Gekas' license after the dentist failed to undergo an ordered physical examination.
2. Dr. Gekas was ordered to have a physical examination due to a stroke in April and a March 2017 incident with a patient.
3. During the March 2017 incident, Dr. Gekas allegedly injected a syringe needle into the pediatric patient's cheek, causing her to bleed.
4. Dr. Gekas challenged the suspension, providing documents that state he underwent a physical examination May 23 that released him to work with no restrictions due to the stroke.
5. Dr. Gekas previously lost his license to prescribe medication for one year in 1989. In 2008, he was under investigation by the state for allegedly practicing without a license. The 2008 case was dropped.
