North Carolina dentist loses license after 2 patients die

The North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners revoked a dentist's license after two patients died due to "excessive" anesthesia, according to the Winston Salem Journal.

Shawana Patterson, DDS, is accused of giving one patient an unnecessary amount of anesthesia. The patient reportedly disclosed to Dr. Patterson health information that made him unfit for anesthesia outside of a hospital.

The patient allegedly turned "bluish-gray" until he was unresponsive. After being rushed to the hospital, the patient was diagnosed with brain damage and later died, according to the Journal.

Another patient died due to a similar experience with Dr. Patterson, according to the Journal.
