Seven dentists making headlines:

1. The University of Connecticut's new dental school dean Sharon Gordon, DDS, PhD, wants to further the university's focus on brining dental and medical students together.

2. James Dye, DDS, was sentenced to five years of probation for his alleged role in a $165,000 Medicaid fraud scheme.

3. Naomi Ellison, DDS, and her husband William "Jim" Ellison have gifted UC Los Angeles School of Dentistry $1 million.

4. Irvine, Calif.-based Smile Brands has relocated one of its affiliated Bright Now Dental offices in Portland, Ore., which is led by Nick Le, DDS.

5. Phelan Thomas, DDS, agreed to settle a case filed by the Iowa Dental Board that accused the dentist of sexually harassing patients and not following correct sterilization processes.

6. The Pennsylvania Dental Association has selected Charles Incalcaterra, DMD, to serve as its 2019-20 president.

7. On April 17, a federal court for the Northern District of Alabama dismissed seven of the 11 counts SmileDirectClub and D. Blaine Leeds, DDS, have brought against the Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama.
