A former employee at a New Haven, Ind., dental practice has been accused of hacking into the practice's phones and website to spread false information that the practice had closed and the lead dentist had an alleged drug problem, according to wane.com.
Downie Family Dentistry's website read, "Unfortunately, due to the escalation of Dr. Downie's chronic substance abuse problem, from cocaine to methamphetamines, we've had to close our doors. If you believe you have been treated by Dr. William Downie while he was under the influence of a controlled substance, you should immediately call the Indiana Dental Association. "
William Downie, DDS, denies the allegations that the former employee has made, calling them "ridiculous," according to wane.com.
The practice shutdown its Facebook page; however, its operating schedule remains the same.
The former employee was fired May 2. Downie Family Dentistry claims the employee was involved in an embezzlement scandal and was said to have promised revenge when he was fired.
"He told us many times 'I'm going to take the ship down,'" Downie Family Dentistry COO T.J. Wagner told wane.com. "'If you let go of me, I will take the ship down with me.'"
Dr. Downie and Downie Family Dentistry are now getting the word out that the practice has no plans for closing and that Dr. Downie has never used illegal drugs.
