A University of Nevada Las Vegas dentist was overpaid around $460,000 between 2009 and 2017, according to a memo written by an attorney at the university and cited by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The attorney is requesting George McAlpine, DDS, an associate professor at UNLV School of Dental Medicine, repay the university the nearly half a million dollars he was allegedly overpaid.
In Dr. McAlpine's contract, the university agreed to pay him up to $150,000 a year if his dental school practice returned a profit. Documents suggest the dentist received $60,000 a year despite a lack of evidence showing the practice generated a profit, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
The payment issue was allegedly brought to the attention of the assistant general counsel two years ago. However, the incentive payments were never addressed.
Dr. McAlpine said that the matter has been "cleared up" and that he was not asked to make any repayments. He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that it was simply an error and that everything was settled.
