An Arizona dentist who pleaded guilty to using fake credentials to obtain an anesthesia permit was sentenced June 17 to two years of probation, according to ABC15.
Pankaj Goyal, DDS, pleaded guilty to three felony charges of criminal possession of a forgery device on May 2. The dentist used fake degrees, forged signatures and false documents to secure a general anesthesia permit. Dr. Goyal allegedly used a basic Microsoft Word template to create a phony residency degree, ABC15 reports.
The anesthesia certificate allowed Dr. Goyal to administer general anesthesia or deep sedation by all medically necessary means.
In the plea deal, Dr. Goyal also agreed to 750 hours of community restitution, $30,000 in fees and fines and up to $2 million for the economic losses of his patients and their insurance companies, reports ABC15.
