Virginia dentist shot and killed outside office

A Newport News, Va., dentist was shot on June 19 in the parking lot of his dental practice, Deer Park Dental, according to the Daily Press.

William Trolenberg, DDS, was taken to a local hospital around 5:15 p.m. after police arrived. Later that evening he died at the hospital.

A sign on Deer Park Dental's front doors says the office is closed indefinitely and apologizes to patients for the inconvenience, the Daily Press reports.

Police are examining surveillance footage to identify the suspect.

Dr. Trolenberg served in the military for 20 years. He retired as the chief of general dentistry element from Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., before opening his own practice.
