Dentistry startup with $36M in funding opens 1st location

With $36 million in funding, Tend, a dentistry startup, opened its first location Oct. 7 in New York City, according to Fast Company.

With executives from SoulCycle, One Medical and SmileDirectClub, the company is looking to move away from traditional dentistry. They have replaced classic dental tools with electric instruments.

"Most [instruments] are air driven, they're very loud — that whinny, horrible noise that everybody hates," Marc Schlenoff, DDS, Tend's vice president of clinical development told Fast Company. "These [tools] are electric, they don't make that noise, there's almost no vibration."

The company has online booking services available and a patient portal with dental history records. New patient paperwork is also available online and can be done before appointments.

All dentists hired have at least three to four years of experience, are salaried and get bonuses based on client satisfaction.
