Fire destroys Chicago dental care mobile

Mobile Care Chicago’s dental van, which provides thousands of students free dental treatment on school campuses, was destroyed in an Oct. 2 fire, according to the Chicago Sun-Times

The fire, sparked by a circuit malfunction, set the van ablaze at its garage, Matt Siemer, Mobile Care's executive director, told the Chicago Sun-Times. There were no injuries and an insurance claim was filed.

The van is inoperable and it could take months to replace it.

In a previous online campaign to update it's pop-up portable dental clinic, Mobile Care raised $2,000 more than their $5,500 goal. Mobile Care plans to start providing dental services via a pop-up clinic by the end of October, according to Mr. Siemer.

Mobile Care is staffed by a dentist, two dental assistants and a field coordinator who serve more than 5,000 children in more than 80 schools.
