Colorado dentist abruptly closes office, patients unable to get refunds, records

A Colorado dentist has abruptly closed his dental practice as patients seek the return of money and dental records, according to local ABC affiliate Denver7.

Douglas R. Sewell, DDS, of Denver-based Cherry Creek Family Dental has an active license to practice, but the dental clinic suddenly closed, patients told Denver7.

Multiple patients reported paying large amounts, some near $1,000, for crowns they never received, and other patients report pain in the absence of dental treatment.

The clinic told clients appointments were canceled, patients say, but did not attempt to reschedule. Staff said the dentist was in the hospital, one patient told Denver7, while another client said Dr. Sewell was at the office this week.

The building owner said the dental practice recently closed and moved out, according to Denver7.

Multiple patients are filing complaints with the state dental regulatory agency.

Dr. Sewell did not respond to Denver7 for comment.
