A former patient of an Anchorage, Alaska-based dentist testified Dec. 4 that the dentist extracted her tooth while on a hoverboard without her consent, according to CNN.
The trial, which began Nov. 12 and is scheduled to end Dec. 6, accuses Seth Lookhart, DMD, of Medicaid fraud, among other charges, including unprofessional care. The dentist had his license suspended in June 2017.
Veronica Wilhelm testified Dec. 4 that Dr. Lookhart pulled her tooth out in July 2016 while riding a hoverboard and being filmed. Ms. Wilhem said she was sedated at the time and did not consent to either action. She was unaware of the incident until investigators contacted her to confirm she was the patient in the video.
Dr. Lookhart had sent the video to his friends and family, joking that performing oral surgery on a hoverboard was a "new standard of care," according to the lawsuit.
Dr. Lookhart's attorney, Paul Stockler, apologized to Ms. Wilhelm on the stand, NBC affiliate KTUU reported, and gave her a chance to address the dentist directly.
"What you did was outrageous, narcissistic, you know, and crazy," the former patient said.
"I've been doing this for 30 years. He's not the first person to do something idiotic," Mr. Stockler told CNN Dec. 6. "I've seen things a lot worse and nobody's ever had criminal charges filed against them."
