6 dental practices abruptly close

Although many dental groups and organizations are growing at a rapid pace, some dentists have abruptly closed their practices for various reasons, including staffing.

Below are six dental offices that abruptly closed over the past six months.

1. Houston-based Stella Dental Care abruptly shut down near the end of 2019, and some patients are seeking dental records and the completion of care.

2. Patients gathered around the Severna Park, Md.-based dental office operated by Neil Woods, DDS, Feb. 3 to confront the dentist, claiming he owes them money after abruptly closing the practice.

3. Former patients of now defunct Signature Smiles in Grand Oaks, Texas, say they are scrambling after the practice closed with no notice.

4. A second Signature Smiles in Humble, Texas, has abruptly shut down, according to a Feb. 18 report.

5. Douglas R. Sewell, DDS, of Denver-based Cherry Creek Family Dental has abruptly closed his dental practice as patients seek the return of money and dental records.

6. Festus, Mo.-based Comtrea has temporarily closed two of its dental practices due to the shortage of dental staffing.
