Pennsylvania Dental Association supports proposal allowing patients to choose dentist despite insurance

The Pennsylvania Dental Association supports proposed legislation that would allow patients more flexibility in choosing a dentist and paying for oral healthcare services, according to an opinion piece published in Penn Live.

The more than 5,000 PDA members are encouraging the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to vote for HB 564, which would let patients directly assign their dental benefit to a dentist of choice, even if the dentist does not participate in the patient's insurance plan.

The proposal also allows patients to pay upfront for care or work out a payment plan with their dentist.

To date, 22 states have passed similar legislation.
