Michigan dental practice remains open, helps save patient’s life

A dental practice in Lansing, Mich., has remained open despite guidance from state officials to close. By doing so, the practice was able to help save a patient’s life, according to local news station WLNS.

Kathy Bennett is scheduled to undergo heart surgery. However, prior to the surgery, she needed to visit a dentist, which proved difficult as many practices have closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s frustrating and it’s scary,” Ms. Bennett told WLNS. “I don’t know how many times I was told no, sorry we can’t help you.”

After six failed calls, David Flint, DDS, agreed to treat her. Ms. Bennett said that she needed dental work to treat an infection that travels through the mucus membrane.

Dr. Flint and other practices that have remained open are also helping with the overflow of patients visiting hospital emergency rooms.
