Eric Morrison, DDS, of Waynesville, N.C.-based Morrison Family Dental, has been placed on a five-year probation by the state board after failing to keep proper patient records, reports The Mountaineer.
In 2018, patient Linda Lee requested that the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners investigate Dr. Morrison. Ms. Lee said the dentist recommended a three-tooth bridge, which she said "looked like three baby teeth facing sideways."
Dr. Morrison performed additional work to fix the issue, including another bridge, which Ms. Lee was also unhappy with, according to her letter to the board. After both bridges required four additional visits, Ms. Lee asked for a refund, which Dr. Morrison refused, Ms. Lee wrote.
The North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners' ruling, which Dr. Morrison consented to, corroborated the claims regarding the three-tooth bridge, and found the dentist unable to provide any notes regarding Ms. Lee's treatment from 2013-14. The board found his 2015-17 notes were "minimal and do not include diagnoses, medications used, materials used for impressions or any documentation that patient LL provided informed consent."
The findings also note that Dr. Morrison received two letters of caution in 2015 and 2016 for failing to document informed consent before treatment.
Dr. Morrison is still employed at the practice he sold last year, but could lose his license for two years if he violates his probation. He also must reimburse Ms. Lee $3,597.50 and the board $2,000 for investigation costs.
