An arrest warrant has been issued for an Arizona dentist who police say hit and killed a man while driving, reports Deseret News.
Andrew David Zeiger, DDS, was charged Jan. 8 with automobile homicide, a second-degree felony, and obstructing justice, a third-degree felony. The 35-year-old dentist is accused of killing Jun Xue on Dec. 29, 2019, a man who stopped his family car on the side of the road to take a picture of the sunset, according to a court report cited by Deseret News.
According to Mr. Xue's wife, "As Jun was walking back across the street with his camera and tripod ... that's when a car sped by and hit him," the report states. Dr. Zeiger told a state trooper on the scene that "he didn't see Jun Xue until the last minute and by then it was too late," according to the report.
Dr. Zeiger didn't perform well on sobriety tests, and a blood test later indicated both THC and amphetamines in his system, reports Deseret News. Police attempted to obtain a DNA sample from Dr. Zeiger to compare with drug paraphernalia found near the road, but were unable to find the dentist at his residence.
Police contacted the dental practice where Dr. Zeiger was employed on July 30, 2020, and were told that Dr. Zeiger hadn't been seen in about three months. Police attempted to reach Dr. Zeiger Dec. 17, but were unable to.
