7-year old Wisconsin girl dies after tooth removal

A 7-year-old girl's heart stopped during a Jan. 8 routine tooth removal, and she died six days later, reports The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

After being sedated at a Cedarburg, Wis.-based dental office, Jocelyn Hampel's heart stopped amid the procedure. Dental staff performed CPR and the girl was transported to Aurora Medical Center, where she remained in a medically induced coma for six days. Jocelyn was taken off life support Jan. 14.

Jocelyn had Cohen syndrome, a rare developmental disorder that affected her speech, Brian Gould, Jocelyn's uncle, told the Journal Sentinel.

A medical examiner is investigating her death, Mr. Gould said.
