A dental hygienist previously employed at Aspen Dental Clinic in Crestwood, Ill., is facing 17 new charges of unauthorized video recording after allegedly putting cameras in the staff bathroom, reports Fox affiliate WFLD.
Armani Alexander, 26, appeared in court May 14. His dental hygienist license has been temporarily suspended because his continued practice may constitute an immediate danger to the public, reports MSN News.
Crestwood, Ill.-based Aspen Dental Clinic is facing 11 lawsuits filed Dec. 10 on behalf of staff who say they were recorded by two hidden cameras in the bathroom. The 11 lawsuits represent dentists, hygienists, assistants and a dental marketing professional who claim they were recorded without their knowledge over a three-week period.
The defendants are Aspen Dental Management, the DSO affiliated with the practice, along with the practice's owner, Abigail Brier, DMD, and her company, ABD Dental Management.
The lawsuits allege Mr. Alexander had a criminal record prior to his two-month employment, but the practice didn't conduct a sufficient background check. The lawsuits seek monetary damages because of the "negligent actions of Aspen Dental," the law firm says.
An Aspen Dental spokesperson told Becker's that the organization could not comment on criminal charges against a former employee.
