The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners is conducting a preliminary investigation into the Jefferson Dental Clinic in North Richland Hills after a woman says she was left unconscious outside the clinic following treatment, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported June 9.
Sheila Anthony Brown told the Star-Telegram that she was given laughing gas to reduce pain during her dental treatment March 8. After signing a medical release form, she passed out in front of the clinic next to her car and was taken to Medical City North Richland Hills and treated for a drug overdose. She has also said the work done when she was given the laughing gas was not done properly and because of that she has spent more than $7,000 to correct the clinic's dental work and has been unable to work.
The state dental board began its preliminary investigation, which must be completed in 60 days, after receiving a complaint from the woman. If the board decides to proceed, an investigator will be assigned to the case. If found in violation, the clinic could face administrative penalty or have its license revoked.
The state dental board told Becker's Healthcare it would not comment on specific cases due to confidentiality reasons.
Jefferson Dental & Orthodontics has more than 70 offices throughout Texas. Becker's Healthcare reached out to Jefferson Dental for comment and will update as more information becomes available.
