Wisconsin Legislature considering first large oral health investment in 2 decades

The Wisconsin Legislature's budget writing committee voted June 15 to increase Medicaid reimbursements for low-income dental services in the state's 2021-23 budget.

The proposed budget would expand Medicaid dental services by 40 percent, an investment the Wisconsin Dental Association said would be the state's first in two decades.

The proposal follows a proposed bill that would authorize dental therapists and auxiliaries in the state to enhance efficiency at clinics and expand care to underserved communities.

The state's full legislature is expected to vote on the proposed budget at the end of the month.
