West Virginia survey finds widespread support for Medicare dental coverage

A recent survey by market research company YouGov found the majority of West Virginia voters supported the addition of dental coverage to Medicare.

The results showed widespread support for Medicare expansions between both Republican and Democratic voters. Approximately 8 in 10 voters supported dental coverage inclusion, while 9 in 10 respondents said dental care is a necessary part of overall healthcare. Additionally, 67 percent of Republicans and 90 percent of Democrats in the state believe legislators should prioritize dental coverage.

The survey also examined utilization trends among voters. Of those surveyed, 60 percent aged 65 or older reported avoiding necessary dental visits because of cost.

The survey was conducted from July 7-19 among a representative group of 404 likely 2022 midterm voters in the state. It was commissioned by several health advocacy organizations, including the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, Families USA, and the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network.
