Boston University completes $115M dental school expansion

Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine has completed its $115 million expansion, the school said Sept. 21.

The three-year project included the addition of 48,000 square feet and renovations to 63,000 square feet of existing space. The school's patient treatment center was equipped with new features provided by dental product manufacturer Dentsply Sirona that allow students to better serve patients. Those features include dental chairs in 100 treatment spaces and digital radiography equipment.

In addition to a 140-seat auditorium for lectures and presentations, a simulation learning center was moved. The learning center is where predoctoral students can practice techniques using updated technology, such as a saliva simulation system and intraoral scanners.

Planning for the project led by design firm SmithGroup, began in 2009, and construction began in 2018.
