Mohamed Maksoud, DMD, a lecturer at the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, is the first dentist chosen for the Fulbright Specialist Program by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchanges.

Dr. Maksoud is lecturer of oral medicine, infection and immunity at the dental school.

The program provides academics and professionals the opportunity to participate in a project lasting between two and six weeks with host universities worldwide.

Dr. Maksoud will participate in the program under a four-year term. The school said he will pursue opportunities to contribute to dental curriculum review and advancement. He also hopes to contribute to faculty training opportunities and the introduction of student research programs at institutions.

"Throughout my career in academic teaching I have travelled to different countries from all corners of the world and was honored to meet people of different cultures. That experience was fulfilling to me in many aspects," Dr. Maksoud said. "Employing the knowledge from different fields of dentistry, I feel well prepared for the challenging studies and research. My strong desire to contribute to the advancement of dental education has continued to drive me to succeed and to accomplish my goals."
