William Gardner, DDS, a dentist in New Mexico accused of tax fraud and treating dental patients without a license, entered a plea deal Jan. 18, according to court documents and NBC's KOB 4.
Four things to know:
1. The New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care revoked Mr. Gardner's license in 2019 after the dentist was accused of submitting fraudulent claims to insurance companies and treating patients while his dental license was suspended.
2. The dentist has been accused of 36 counts of tax fraud. An investigation by KOB 4 found that Mr. Gardner allegedly had practiced dentistry without a license. The news publication alleges that after the initial report aired, multiple people have said they received dental care from Mr. Gardner while his license was revoked.
3. Now, the tax fraud is nearing a close, as Mr. Gardner enters a plea deal. Court documents show that a plea deal was certified Jan. 18. The terms of the plea deal will not be publicly disclosed until the next hearing, according to KOB 4.
4. Mr. Gardner's attorney did not return KOB 4's requests for comment.
