1. 118 groups urge Envista to discontinue mercury fillings: Dental supply company Envista is under fire for continuing to manufacture mercury fillings. Envista received letters from 118 environmental, consumer and children's groups asking the company to stop producing amalgam. As of March 9, Becker's was unable to reach Envista for comment.

2. 5 years in prison for former dental office worker who embezzled $177K: A former Virginia dental office employee who embezzled more than $177,000 struck a plea deal to serve five years of a 20-year prison sentence, The Free Lance-Star reported March 8.

3. Number of oral and maxillofacial dentists in US on the rise: The number of oral and maxillofacial surgery dentists in the U.S. has increased nearly 17 percent from 2001-21, according to the ADA. In 2001, there were 6,358 oral and maxillofacial surgery dentists, compared to 2021, when there were 7,437.
