A Washington dentist's dental license has been suspended after he allegedly violated multiple sanitation and infection control rules, the Washington State Department of Health reported June 22.
The dentist, Sandy Montano, DDS, practiced at Deer Park (Wash.) Dental when the alleged violations occurred, according to the health department.
The state's dental quality assurance commission received a complaint regarding Dr. Montano's alleged patient safety and infection control allegations on Nov. 17, 2021. Those alleged violations included retrieving materials from trash receptacles and placing them with unused ones, failure to maintain clean water lines, failure to use gloves, and using dirty or damaged gloves when working with patients.
When a Department of Health investigator tried to conduct an infection control inspection at the practice on Dec. 1, 2021, Dr. Montano allegedly refused, the health department said.
Dr. Montano is not permitted to practice in the state until charges are resolved. He has 19 days to respond to the charges and ask for a hearing, according to the health department.
