Arizona dentist’s license revoked for using pliers during surgery

The Arizona Board of Dental Examiners has revoked the license of a dentist in Flagstaff, Ariz., who used pliers on a patient during surgery, according to a March 7 report from ABC 15.

During a dental surgery in November 2023, Robert Janisse, DDS, used a pair of nonsterile pliers to pull out a patient’s dental implant while the patient was sedated.

In its report, the board claimed that there was “no clinical evidence” for removing all of the patient’s lower teeth.

Dr. Janisse had his license suspended by the board in November.

An administrative judge who reviewed the case and testimony suggested a 12-month probationary period and mandatory continuing education for Dr. Janisse, but the dental board disagreed.

The board voted 5-2 in favor of revoking Dr. Janisse’s license, the report said.
