How Pacific Dental Services is working to improve payment processes

Joe Feldsien, senior vice president of professional partnerships at Pacific Dental Services, and Matt Hall, president and COO of healthcare technology platform, Wellfit, recently gave a sought-after presentation at the 2019 Dentist Entrepreneur Organization’s Summer Summit.

The presentation, “The Future of Payments in Group Dentistry: The Provider-Patient Relationship,” was given to a packed audience of over 600 dental professionals and executives. The presentation highlighted the importance of leveraging technology platforms to eliminate payment complexities in dentistry, bringing transparency and understanding to benefits and payment options for providers and their patients.

"We see the friction that exists between the provider and the patient, and we're looking to break that down," Mr. Feldsien said. "When it's time to talk about money, the trust that the dentist may have built with the patient during the exam may quickly disintegrate. Transparency is what's needed."

Wellfit is a healthcare technology platform that makes dental benefits and payment processes simple, transparent and cost-effective for providers, patients and employers.

During the presentation, Mr. Feldsien and Mr. Hall examined the current state of paying for dentistry, noting that the dental reimbursement process has not changed in over four decades and payment processes and systems continue to be siloed. These are the main reasons for the breakdown of trust between patients and providers. The Wellfit platform, however, simplifies payment operations for providers and unifies payment processes for patients, which in turn, helps patients build trust with their providers.

“Wellfit serves DSOs and group practices of all sizes, helping them grow, scale, and build trusting relationships between providers and their patients,” said Mr. Hall. “When trust increases, dentists are enabled to do more of the dentistry they diagnose, and patients are empowered to get healthier because they understand their benefits and costs.”

Wellfit is supported by cloud-based technology, allowing dentists to easily manage patients' plans and eliminate the need to file claims. Patients also benefit because payments are processed in real time.

Pacific Dental Services is among the largest DSOs in the country with more than 700 supported dental offices.
