Walmart could expand dental care access, Pacific Dental leaders say

Becker's asked two Pacific Dental Services leaders what they thought about Walmart entering dentistry.

Here's what they said:

"Walmart entering the space is good for dentistry," said Joseph Feldsien, senior vice president of professional partnerships at Pacific Dental Services. "Sixty percent of Americans don't go to the dentist on a regular basis. And yet, according to multiple studies, the impact oral health has on systemic health is massive. If Walmart is able to increase access to oral care, this is good for dentistry and U.S. healthcare in general."

"More access to oral healthcare is better for everyone," said Daniel Burke, senior vice president of platform strategy and general counsel at Pacific Dental Services. "Hopefully, Walmart's entrance into dental will increase their customers' understanding of the connection between inflammation and diseases in the mouth to other systemic medical conditions. As we know, dental health is critical for whole-body health. The more people who know this, the better."
