An investor turned DSO co-founder and six other dental group leaders to know:
1. Sam Alkhoury, DMD. President and Owner of Simply Dental Management (Hopkinton, Mass.). Dr. Alkhoury founded the DSO in 2005 and oversees operations of its more than 40 practices throughout New England.
2. Jeffrey Carter MD, DMD. Founder of US Dental Surgery Network (Nashville, Tenn.). Dr. Carter is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who practices in Nashville, Tenn. His past leadership positions include director of the OMS residency at the Carle Clinic in Urbana, Ill.; president of the Oral Surgical Institute in Nashville; and medical director of the Specialty Surgery Center in Nashville.
3. David Janash, DMD. Founder and CEO of Underbite Dental Management (New York City). Dr. Janash has led Underbite since 2011 and oversees the DSO's 12 locations throughout New York and Maryland. He was previously a strategic advisor for Nushama, a psychedelic therapy center, and was president and owner of Park South Dentistry, both in New York City.
4. Keith Kendrick. CEO of United Dental Partners (Chicago). Mr. Kendrick joined United Dental Partners as chief marketing officer in 2020 and was appointed CEO in 2021. In his role, he oversees the DSO's 24 offices and 380 employees.
5. Michael Schwartz. Chair and CEO of Specialty Dental Brands (Nashville, Tenn.). Mr. Schwartz has more than 25 years of experience in organizational leadership, having served as president and CEO of several dental groups, including Refresh Dental and Corner Dental. As CEO of Specialty Dental Brands, he oversees 170 practices in 14 states.
6. Elliot Zibel. Co-founder and CEO of Select Dental Management (Florham Park, N.J.). Mr. Zibel co-founded Select Dental Management with Jonathan Mason, DMD, in 2018. Before establishing the DSO, he worked as an investor who helped fund and advise startups and multibillion-dollar companies.
7. Ilya Zak, DDS. CEO of Zak Dental (Downey, Calif.). Dr. Zak opened his first dental practice in 1994 and now oversees Zak Dental's 12 locations throughout California. Additionally, he is a volunteer faculty member at the University of California School of Dentistry in Los Angeles.
