Dental implant market sets sights on $8.1B: 3 observations

As the amount of Americans missing natural teeth continues to boom, the dental implant market grows by 500,000 new patients a year, according to Clearwater, Fla.-based Boyd Industries, a dental equipment manufacturer.

Here's what you should know.

1. In the United States, more than 35 million people have no remaining teeth, while 178 million are missing at least one tooth. Approximately three million Americans have dental implants already.

2. Due to the increased demand, analysts expect the market to reach $8.18 billion by 2024.

3. Boyd Industries CEO Adrian LaTrace said it's important to educate patients about the benefits of dental implants.

"For example, one orthodontist partnered with his local school district to create a private bus route to bring kids to his practice for their monthly appointments, while other dental offices are beginning to offer services, such as salons, coffee bars, free wifi and comfortable, home-like décor. It’s fine if a dentist wants to stick with traditional offerings in his or her practice, but it’s also important to start thinking about other possible ways to attract business to the practice," Mr. LaTrace said.
