33% of young US adults have dental anxiety from teeth, gum issues: 4 key points

Many patients spanning the U.S. and U.K. have anxiety over dental issues, according to Markets Insider.

Here are four key points:

1. American Dental Association's research arm found 33 percent of U.S. adults between 18 and 34 hesitate to smile because of decaying teeth and gum problems.

2. Twenty-eight percent of this cohort said the appearance of their teeth and mouth may compromise their ability to obtain a job interview.

3. Thirty-plus percent of respondents have untreated tooth decay.

4. A British Dental Association survey showed 77 percent of respondents said decayed teeth or bad breath may substantially affect their chance of obtaining a job in client-facing or public roles.
