'Still getting gouged': California dentist struggles to remain profitable

One of the biggest struggles right now is trying to afford enough personal protective equipment, Kevin Cabugao, DDS, a dentist with three practices in California's North Bay Area, told The North Bay Business Journal.

"To this day, we're still getting gouged," said Dr. Cabugao, adding that a box of gloves went from about $6 to more than $30.

The dentist started to charge patients a PPE fee, but quickly abandoned the extra cost after a negative patient response.

"We're still trying to figure out ways to be profitable while paying gouge-like prices for protective equipment," Dr. Cabugao told The North Bay Business Journal.

The dentist said revenue has dropped by at least 25 percent since last year.
