University of Maryland, Frederick Memorial Hospital provide affordable dental care: 5 notes

The Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Dentistry and the Frederick, Md.-based Frederick Memorial Hospital have teamed up to create the Monocacy Health Partners Dental Clinic, a clinic that provides dental care for low-income, uninsured adults, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Here's what you need to know:

1. The five-room clinic is expected to serve 1,800 people each year.

2. At present, the clinic is only seeing patients with acute problems, like infected molars — not providing cleanings or other routine dental care.

3. The hospital estimates the clinic will cost about $160,000 for annual operations, some of which will be covered by state bonds and grants.

4. Affordable dental care is an importance service for low-income adults, since Medicare does not offer dental coverage and Medicaid is not required to cover dental care for adults.

5. Patients who need additional medical services are referred to the Frederick Memorial Hospital, which is located across the street.
