Dental hygienist, assistant professions projected to grow 7% by 2032

The employment rate of dental hygienists and dental assistants is expected to increase 7% by 2032, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Both professions have a projected percent change in employment of 7% over the next decade, higher than the average growth rate of 3% for all occupations. 

Here are the job outlook stats for dental hygienists and dental assistants, according to the data, which was updated Sept. 6:

Dental hygienists

Number of jobs in 2022: 219,400

Employment change, 2022-2032: 16,300

Growth rate, 2022-2032: 7% increase

Dental assistants

Number of jobs in 2022: 371,000

Employment change, 2022-2032: 25,700

Growth rate, 2022-2032: 7% increase
