Dental technicians earn $34,654 per year in West Virginia, the lowest-paying state for the profession, according to career website ZipRecruiter.

That figure is $12,785 below the national average of $47,439.

ZipRecruiter collects its compensation data, which was updated Sept. 11, from employer job postings and third-party data sources. 

Here are the 10 states where dental technicians are paid the least, starting with the lowest-paying state:

1. West Virginia: $34,654

2. Arkansas: $36,906

3. North Carolina: $37,196

4. Kentucky: $37,566

5. Idaho: $38,652

6. Nebraska: $38,946

7. Texas: $39,827

8. New Hampshire: $40,066

9. Missouri: $40,124

10. Pennsylvania: $40,219
