Wisconsin introduces bill to authorize dental therapists

Wisconsin legislators recently introduced a bill that would allow dental therapists to practice in the state, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Nov. 6.

The bill, introduced Nov. 2, would make Wisconsin the 14th state to authorize dental therapists.

Similar bills have previously been considered at least three other times, the news organization reported.

Dental therapists are mid-level providers whose level of care provided is between that of a dentist and dental hygienist. Allowing dental therapists to practice in the state can help centers treat more patients on Medicaid as the state faces a shortage of dentists.
